Topic: 100 years after the Spanish flu: Are we ready for the next pandemic?

 

Speaker: Professor Baron Peter Piot is a Belgian clinical microbiologist internationally renowned for his Ebola virus and AIDS research. He and his colleagues discovered the Ebola virus in 1976 (he was only 27 years old at the time), and they were the first team to record the Ebola virus outbreak fully. Dr. Piot has also made outstanding contributions, is a pioneer in AIDS research. He has been in an important position in AIDS research and management held by the United Nations and the World Health Organization. He was once the deputy director of the Global Programme on HIV /AIDS, the World Health Organization, the founding Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.
